Biography:
As well as etching, Barbra works in paint and pastel, drawing inspiration from three areas:-
Gardens, Arches in Tuscany and Wildlife. There is a mystery in her work, shadows may change in angels, the stones of Italy reveal their secrets.
Much of Barbra’s inspiration comes from her extensive travels. She lived in Zimbabwe for nine years with her children. Sketches of animals and rock art have informed her work as well as the views of the mountains around her Lakeland Studio.
Barbra Cropper is best know as a printmaker. The copper plate is line etched and inked up with black or coloured printing inks and then covered with damp paper and taken to press. The editions are small ( 7 – 10).A/P (artist’s proofs) are individually coloured. Etched copper plates are inked up and worked with monoprint achieving exciting results.
Sometimes tones and rich tonal areas are added to the etching plate using aquatint.
