Biography:
I studied Fine Art - Sculpture at Falmouth College of Art, then did an M.A. at Norwich Art School. I also have a post graduate degree in Art Psychotherapy, and have had a studio at the Vernon Mill, Stockport, for 2 years now
Earlier in 2010 I started working with books, using them to create new forms, which I display within old frames and the reverse sides of canvasses. Things which are often ignored, or overlooked, interest me because they are of value
Books can be beautiful objects in themselves, although a book in a bookcase is not always appreciated as an individual object. It may only be read by a single person, so only they see each page.
Through changing the pages, by folding, cutting and tearing, a book can become another object in its own right. Then combined with frames and displaying them in a sensitive way, I create objects which are unique.
The quality and weight of the paper used suggests the final form, and how they are finally shown, as does whether they are hardback or a pulp novel, a pamphlet, or a leaflet.
Artist's Location: High Peak, Derbyshire.
